CADSharp is the leading provider of migration services to and from SOLIDWORKS, Onshape, Inventor, Fusion, NX, Creo, CATIA, and/or Solid Edge. We can move metadata and/or feature data while preserving design intent and file structure. We solve your migration needs using one or both of the solutions below.

Automated Migration

Custom software is used in parallel to perform mass model import with metadata intact

Manual Translation

Manual translation of CAD data, preserving parametric feature tree using best practices

CAD translation and migration workflow example

CADSharp’s proprietary software is faster and more accurate than any of its competitors.

For automated (bulk) migration translation to Onshape specifically, our software offers:

  • Direct CAD extraction without an intermediate macro/text file
  • Solid Edge support (partial support for NX, and Inventor would be easy to add)
  • More powerful meta data transformations built in
  • Stage specific validation
  • Onshape release automation
  • Multibody handling
  • Post migration assembly reference replacement

For manual translation / recreation in Onshape, we work designers skilled in the target CAD system to ensure that your models end up in the target system with correct design intent and modeling best practices. We do not mindlessly recreate models in the target CAD system like cheaper translation shops.

The discovery and quoting process typically looks like this:

  1. We sign an NDA from your organization, if necessary.
  2. We provide you with a Dropbox link to upload a data set.
  3. You submit the following:
    1. A data set containing models of low, medium, and high complexity.
    2. An estimated percentage of each complexity level in the entire data set.
    3. Other criteria that might determine whether a model requires translation as neutral geometry (e.g., make/buy flag).
  4. After examining your data set, we will include the following in our proposal:
    1. Whether neutral geometry migration or feature-based manual translation is appropriate – or a combination.
    2. If neutral geometry migration is involved, whether you should perform the migration internally or utilize CADSharp.
    3. Timelines and costs based on your deadlines.

As of summer of 2026, our software and designers have been utilized for 300k+ neutral geometry migrations and over 1K feature-based translations. Note that the feature-based translations include watercraft, housing fixtures, trade show displays, and more.

If you want to maintain parametric feature data in your drawings, then a manual translation will be necessary. Otherwise, if you only need legacy drawings present for reference, we can migrate them as PDF or DXF.

Our neutral geometry migration tools already support SOLIDWORKS, Onshape, Solid Edge, Fusion, Inventor, and NX. Other software that we have the capability of implementing but have not yet implemented include Creo and CATIA. Of course, we can develop software for any CAD system that has an API.

Please note that do we not carry active licenses for every CAD system, therefore some jobs may require us to use your licenses, otherwise we will need to include the license cost in the service cost.

For legal reasons, we typically cannot sell an off-the-shelf product that makes use of the APIs of popular CAD systems to perform migration or translation. What we can do, however, is develop software that you will own and use internally with your own licensed CAD. Alternatively, we can provide you with the migration/translation service, in which you give us the source models and we return to you the migrated/translated models.
